Happy Birthday to Me!
I'd just like to say THANK YOU to all of my wonderful friends and family out there who made today so special!!!
I must admit, self pity had gotten to me and I was sure today would suck, but it didn't because of all the love and warm wishes I got from everyone, I truly am blessed.
I knew today was turning for the best when I walked out to my car this morning and the sun was shining and it was 63 degrees already (we topped out at 70 today).
I then tried to induce a sugar coma by treating myself to a venti white chocolate mocha, from Starbucks, and an apple fritter, from the local donut shop.
I walked into the office to discover a very large balloon looming over my desk for the entire world to see and the box set of the Munsters, both thoughtful gifts from my friend and cube neighbor Talmage. This was accompanied by a very funny card and a very sweet card sat next to it from my wonderful group.
I later got around to reading a title-less email from the front desk. It would appear that my dear husband sent me flowers to the office. Tulips go way back with the two of us, and are one of my favorite flowers, so I was VERY happy to see them waiting for me in the lobby.
Tanja, another friend and cube neighbor, took me out for Thai food (yet another personal favorite) at lunch. The food was wonderful and we had a great time chatting away from the grind.
Minor setbacks in the afternoon due to cranky customers, but I managed to not let this ruin my day and kept on going.
Ryan and Sara swooped in to save me from dinner with the cats and took me out to Spiedo in San Mateo. They also gave me a beautiful silver tray with grapes all over it and a wiener dog card! We had a great dinner filled with wine and good cheer. The waiter caught on that it was my birthday and put a candle in my tiramisu.
I then came home to open the gift from my in-laws, safely tucked away in Grant's underwear drawer. It is a totally groovy martini pendant on a silver chain. I'm not sure what it says when your in-laws give you cocktail related jewelry, but I like it!
The entire day was punctuated by wonderful calls from all the friends and family that aren't here in the Bay area. It's so nice to catch up with folks; I need to be better about calling them all more often.
So all in all, minus missing Grant horribly, this ranks as one of the best birthdays yet.
Hugs, kisses and love to all of my amazing friends and family! You really know how to make a girl feel special; I'm so incredibly blessed to have all of you in my life!
I'm anxious to make this! Thank You!
We thought a nice "pick-me-up" martini would be in order....besides, we didn't make it to the M's ")
Happy Birthday! Glad you got some nice weather. It's been in the 20s and 30s all week here in Boston. But that didn't stop me from cycling at lunchtime. ;-)
Oh my god, what a DORK I am! I knew it was your birthday today (at least yesterday I knew) and I called during your birthday dinner and didn't even say Happy Birthday. I wondered why on earth you answered your phone if you were out to dinner with friends.. "Oh, that's Mary calling, I bet she wants to wish me happy birthday". Nope. A. Big. Dork.
So, hey, Happy Birthday, Mel! I'm so glad your friends & colleagues and California made it a good one. See you tomorrow!
